Reasons to Get Married at Big Sur Lodge
Here are just a few reasons that couples love the Big Sur Lodge, and why it might just be the perfect place for you to get hitched!
The Scenery
Of course, there’s the scenery. You get the magic of Big Sur, with the redwood forest surrounding you, the ocean nearby, and the cozy, earthy atmosphere that the area is known for.

A Private Venue
By getting married at the Big Sur Lodge, you get all the perks of a private venue – you’ll have the ceremony site to yourselves, it’s easy to get to, and you don’t need to worry about hiking into the woods or getting a permit for a ceremony at a state park.
Where is the Big Sur Lodge?
The Big Sur Lodge sits inside Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, about 45 minutes south of Monterey. The drive in, on Highway 1, is part of the experience, winding through coastal cliffs and ocean overlooks. Once you get to the lodge, you’ll find the lodge, surrounded by nature but close to the highway.
Pfeiffer Beach, with rocky sea arches and streaks of purple sand, is a short drive away, and there are plenty of nearby spots for photos.

Ceremonies
Ceremonies at the Big Sur Lodge usually happen in the Redwood Grove – a private outdoor space surrounded by towering trees. It can host up to 60 people, so it’s perfect for elopements or intimate weddings.

Receptions
After your ceremony, you can celebrate with a reception in the Redwood Grove, or have dinner at the Homestead Restaurant on site.
The Best Time for a Big Sur Lodge Wedding
Choosing the season for your wedding at the Big Sur Lodge makes a big difference. Summer is usually the most popular season for travelers and for weddings, because the weather is usually warm and sunny.
Fall can be great because the summer crowds have died down, and the rainy season doesn’t usually start until November. The weather is usually pretty stable, and the days are warm!
Winter is quiet, and very moody. You can expect rain, mist, and fog – but because there’s only one highway through Big Sur, storms can sometimes cause closures. It rarely falls below 40 degrees, but it definitely gets chilly, and you’ll need layers.
Spring brings wildflowers and lush greenery. March is still pretty rainy, but in April it starts to warm up. Be prepared for muddy trails, and the weather can be a little unpredictable!

Where to Stay When You Get Married at Big Sur Lodge
When you plan a wedding at Big Sur Lodge, you have everything you need all in one place. You and your guests can stay on site, in one of cottage-style suites.
Or, you can book a private Airbnb in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where you’ll find cabins and rentals tucked in the forest, or with ocean views.

Big Sur Lodge Wedding Inspiration
Your wedding day should be completely your own – and with an intimate wedding at the Big Sur Lodge, you can customize it to fit the two of you and your love story. Here’s one couple’s story, to get you inspired.
Kenzie and Ken visited Big Sur while it was raining, but they decided to do their hike to Pfeiffer Falls anyway – even in the rain, they knew right away that it was where they wanted to get married.
Kenzie’s a huge Taylor Swift fan, so the night before their wedding, Kenzie and her friends spent the night at the Airbnb making bracelets. The next morning, she got ready at the Airbnb, and when Ken came in, he saw one of the bracelets lying around. He instinctively put it in his pocket, wanting to have something of Kenzie’s with him to hold on to.
The two of them had their first look on the rooftop of the Airbnb, overlooking the ocean. Seeing each other for the first time was such a sweet moment, and Ken pulling out the bracelet made it even sweeter! They exchanged private vows, just the two of them, before heading out to the Big Sur Lodge.
Ken and Kenzie got married in the Redwood Grove, with a few loved ones around. After teary hugs, a champagne toast, and their first dance in the woods, they headed to Pfeiffer Beach.
Ken always says his heart is in the trees, and Kenzie’s is in the ocean – Big Sur is the perfect for them, and this day reflected both of them so well.
